Overview:
Masterdisk was launched in 1973 as part of the PolyGram Records family of audio facilities. Two years later, the label decided to opt out of the studio business and in 1975 sold the Masterdisk division to medical equipment company OCG Technology Inc., which rented the other half of the floor. That same year, Masterdisk's present CEO, Doug Levine began working in the facility's mail room, beginning a journey which took him through positions of bookkeeper, to holding the dual positions of President of Masterdisk and Vice President of the parent medical company. In 1982, Levine bought Masterdisk outright, and from that moment forward the company had an entirely new set of wings. In 1990, Masterdisk acquired its present location, comprising the entire 5th floor of its Midtown Manhattan building. The company completely renovated a second time in 1999/2000, as part of an ongoing effort to keep the facility at the cutting edge of media technologies. In early 2001, the company acquired and renovated the 6th floor to accommodate the rapid expansion of their highly successful DVD operations. Masterdisk has always been a trailblazer: we were the first to have a digital mastering console, the first Sonic Solutions user in New York, first mastering facility to offer DVD services.
