| Overview: The Chesapeake Bay Chapter is a regional component of the American Institute of Architects, and was founded in 1965. Charter member H. Chandlee Forman noted the history of the name in his record of the Chapter's beginning: "It was to be called the "Chesapeake Bay Chapter"" because the eleven counties, Anne Arundel, Calvert, St. Mary's, Kent, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset, where its members live, all border on the great Bay or its tidal rivers." The purpose of the Chapter was clearly stated on the back of the attractive blue menu for the Charter Night dinner of October 18, 1965: "The formation of the Chesapeake Bay Chapter... will provide an effective organization of architects practicing within its chartered boundaries, which can, by its guidance, counseling, and educational programs, help to insure that the area's total environment growth follows a course which will serve the best interests of the entire community. We recognize the vital importance of the tremendous task which we face in our resolve to contribute the best of our professional abilities toward preserving the rich historical architectural heritage which is ours in the eleven counties bordering the Chesapeake Bay, as well as guiding the development of all the new facilities which will be required for our rapidly increasing population."
