| Overview: Many changes have taken place over the years in the company and in the industry since Alfred E. Robinson began operating the company with one truck in 1950. He originally worked for Mobil at the Bangor terminal. When the distributorship opened up in 1950, Robinson successfully applied for it and moved his family to Dover-Foxcroft from Bangor. In 1970, A.E. Robinson's son, James, bought the family business and has continued the A.E. Robinson tradition. There were a lot of conversions in the beginning: From wood to petroleum fuels, from kerosene heaters to oil-fired furnaces. Alfred's son, Jim Robinson is the president, his brother, Al (now retired), worked in transportation, and another brother, Bill, runs the sheet-metal department in Dexter. Jim's sons Jamie and Mark also work for the company. Jamie works out of the main office in Dover-Foxcroft and operates the retail part of the business, and Mark works out of the office in Dexter. Two nephews, Peter and Bill, are in the service department, where Bill is the manager. John McNeal of Holden was hired in June 1997 as the controller for the corporation. He brings to the company more than 20 years of finance and accounting experience. He was previously employed by Webber Energy Fuels and the Erin Co. in Bangor. During the oil embargo in the early 1970's, the gasoline supply tightened, and the dealers became disgruntled.
