Of course, we couldn't forget 440 c.i. Dodge Ram pick up trucks and Ramchargers also. The Dart, Demon and Coronet car lines gave us all more to droll about with a long list of engine and transmission combos to choose from. I remember walking the used car lot in those days. If I only knew then what I know now! Oh well. The Agnes flood in 1972 changed things significantly. The water reached the windows on the second floor. The entire new and used car inventory, parts inventory, and all furniture and fixtures were lost. In fact, 6 employees had to be taken out of the window in a boat due to the unexpectedly fast rise of the water. However, in just 60 days the dealership was open for business again. The help and support of the employees, customers, and area residents made this possible. The late 70's and the early 80's were a time of high interest rates (the kiss of death for car sales), gas lines, and Chrysler Corporation's financial woes. Remember Lee Iacocca begging the government to guarantee the loans of Chrysler? It makes it difficult to operate if your manufacturer is an inch from bankruptcy. The dealership not only continued, but prospered. The quality of service and low prices kept Kingston Dodge selling and servicing vehicles when other dealers couldn't. The situation was helped by a few vehicles also. For instance, the "K" car Aries, 600 and Omni lines. There also was a vehicle I almost forgot about. the Dodge Caravan.
