Overview:
In 1972, S. Ramsco Inc., known to many as S.R.I., was launched in a tractor shed on South Wisner Street owned by John Warfield. An old truss gantry machine was located, partly submerged in a New England pond, and when it arrived it still had fish frozen to it. The owners and employees of S.R.I. put the gantry into working order and the first wood truss was fabricated in 1973. Sales in the first year were $75,000. As sales grew, the company relocated to Highland Street Industrial Park in 1975 and from there to 580 E. Church Street in a yet a larger facility. By 1986 the plant was too small to accommodate growing business, sales surpassed $1.5 million - and plans were made to move into a new building. By the fall of 1987, the new plant construction was completed, and this is where S.R.I. resides today. The facility was constructed with private funds and no local, state, or federal funding programs were used. | |
